The word rattan derives from the Malaysian word ‘rotan’ meaning climbing plant.  Rattan is a tall spindly plant, and it is estimated that only about 20% of the world’s rattan is commercially useful.  The remaining 80% being not as strong and flexible to use in any sort of industry.

Most cane and rattan originates from Southeast Asia, and is collected from the wild, although considerable efforts are in progress in recent times to cultivate the plant on special farms.

On our last post we were telling you about our long awaited out door wicker furniture and just how long it can take for it to get to us from our factory which is in the far east,the way that the design has to be done and the way that here are Cane Direct,we have to spend many months of really hard work making designs for our new furniture ranges,which we normally come out about every 18 months,some times a little longer,that is forour wicker furniture,how ever our fabrics tend to change about every twelve months or so,it is very important that with the fabrics you keep up to date with the latest trends even more so when you are bring out a new range of out door furniture which is very much the in product to have,people expect you to have all the latest fabrics.Once we have picked the fabrics for our furniture we then have to make a final decision on the styles of furniture that we are going to stock for the following year we then have to make a decision about how many units of each piece of furniture we are going to stock,we have to do all of this because it is not like turning a tap on,these products take over three months to make and then you have another month for them to be shipped so that is four months in total,our customers expect to wait for a maximum of maybe one month,besides that our out door furniture needs to be stock,there is no way one of our customers is going to order their furniture at the start of the summer and not get it delivered until the end of the summer,you as a company just would not take any orders.That’s why it is so important that we order our products from the factory the year before we really need them,it is also very important for our cash flow that we get the right quantities of each unit because if a product is slow at selling that means our money is tied up on one or two pieces of out door wicker which as any business will tell you is not a good place to be.

On our last post i was telling you guys about our new range of out door rattan furniture actually that is not quite true i was really telling you more about the problems with wooden furniture and how it has to maintained year on year and why not to buy it now that there is great new product out that is just incredible it is made from a very special type of plastic called viro,the only slight problem is that it is quite expensive to produce,how ever in saying that once you have made your purchase of our out door range you will never never have to replace it and better still you will never have to maintain it,i don’t know if your like me but rather then spend two or three days stripping down furniture i would much rather be watching the football on the TV or enjoying the sun with cold beers.This furniture will go for ever at the moment we at cane Direct can only offer a five year guarantee with our garden products for the simple reason that the product has only been around for that length of time but so far during our tests which is just over five years the furniture still looks brand new,so i am guessing that it is going to last a lot longer but for that we will have to wait and see.
